ADHD

Attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a brain disorder marked by an ongoing pattern of inattention and/or hyperactivity-impulsivity that interferes with functioning or development. It is believed to affect 3 to 5 percent of American children. Diagnosis is typically made during the elementary school years, and symptoms can last into adulthood.

ADHD tends to run in families, and some studies have shown that if a parent has been diagnosed, the child has a 50% or higher chance of having it.

Common symptoms of ADHD include:

  • Inability to follow instructions
  • Tendency to wander off task
  • Lack of persistence
  • Difficulty staying organized
  • Appearing fidgety or hyper
  • Extreme restlessness; overly active
  • Talking too much or exhibiting disruptive behavior
  • Easily distracted
  • Impulsive behavior
  • Inability to delay gratification

ADHD can interfere with a child’s ability to learn and socialize with peers, causing emotional distress and frustration. The good news: there are effective natural treatment options that can have a tremendous impact on your child’s behavior and success in school.
